Cold, Dead Hands

"from my cold, dead hands."

"from my cold, dead hands."

No one is arguing that TVs should be banned, but for too many people giving up the remote (even for one week) could only happen if it was dragged from their “cold, dead hands“.

Here’s a sad story:

How much do white Americans think it costs to be black in our society, given the problems associated with racial bias and prejudice?

The answer, it appears, is not much.

When white Americans were asked to imagine how much they would have to be paid to live the rest of their lives as a black person, most requested relatively low amounts, generally less than $10,000.

In contrast, study participants said they would have to be paid about $1 million to give up television for the rest of their lives.

P.S. Thanks to my hubby for the great photoshopping job!

  1. A million bucks could be required to entice someone to turn their television off for life. That’s enough to buy a home, health insurance for life, travel and a level of comfort enjoyed by less than 1% of the world’s population. Prying the remote from my cold dead hands is no exaggeration. The invention of the remote put us all firmly on the sofa. Next generation television is already creating completely immersive holographic environments. At this point some would give up the kids, family dog and spouse to keep their television privileges.

“immersive holographic environments”, that sounds pretty amazing.

I remember Scott Adams (re Star Trek) pointing out that if a holodeck
really did exist on a space ship, that nothing would every get done.
No one would ever want to leave the holodeck.

  2. Great shop job and concept.

I had to laugh, and then I immediately read the copy as, “From my cold dead mind!” And then imagined these people holding remotes, which I guess what they are actually holding is about the same as tv remotes sometimes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bar_zombies.jpg

And then realized that maybe this is why all the movie entertainment focus on zombies is happening. The white culture is becoming zombies because of tv and they lose their ability to logically rationalize basic socioeconomic realties…

Oh well, maybe this is all good news because zombies are more interested in eating other people than watching television. Perhaps there is hope after all…

      Thank you! (from my hubby)

I’ve tried photoshopping, tried, not succeeded. It is
      definitely harder than I expected.

Ha, that’s right, finding alternatives to TV-watching
      is very important!
